My first idea for my topic is how society, and more specifically magazines, actresses, models, and advertisement, affect the self esteem and self image of teenagers and young girls. I want to be able to help girls to be happy with who they are and what they look like and not look down upon themselves because they don't look like the girl on the cover of cosmo. Big time stores like Victoria's Secret, Abercrombie and Hollister create the image that you have to have the "perfect body" to wear their clothes. World famous brands such as Prada, Michael Kors, Dolce and Gabana all have these same models that have "perfect bodies" and those are the type of women young girls look up to and strive to be like, and then we wonder why anorexia, depression, and self esteem is such a big problem in this world. I want to not only reveal how these women are so "perfect" but to help girls be happy with who they are.
Great idea . . . considering how huge the photoshop thing is now, you'll have a ton of information to research. It might be helpful to look up companies that are against photoshopping to highlight or reinforce your message.
I think this is a great idea. The standard those tiny women set isn't practical for the everyday girl that's in school, working, or has other obligations and just don't have the time to put into their bodies that models do. It makes girls whose shape is completely fine hate themselves and it's not right.

This seems like a really good topic and there is definitely a lot of information out there that you can use. Even a simple poll within our school system asking "Are you happy with your appearance" or "Are you proud of who you are" would prove the point that most girls are not, and that is a very sad thing. If our school can start with the movement of redefining beauty, it could potentially start a movement and change this concept everywhere.
This is a great topic. I think a lot of girls today have issues with their self esteem from looking at these perfect people and it does affect their personality and their mental decisions

This is a good idea. You could also go further and provide evidence as to how far this low self-esteem carries over into girl's lives. For example, you could try to provide evidence as to how the low confidence that begins with their body image ends up affecting their schooling, sports, etc.

I think that this is a really good topic. Many girls suffer from problems like the ones that you mentioned because of the affect that media has. You could ask girls in middle school how they feel about their experience as well as girls in high school.
